The Year’s End, It Is

I finished this on Christmas Eve and forgot to take pictures (and was then away until last night,) but hey. Works as a good Last Post Of The Decade, no? Pattern is, once again, by Vivian Russo/Philae Artes and is, once again, a take on The Child/Baby Yoda. This one’s significantly bigger than the ornaments and available for snuggling or putting out and staging something. (He’s not quite posable, with his little arms going under the collar and also being quite small, but then we are talking about a cute and tiny baby.) The pattern is really simple and easy-to-follow, which is always ideal for things like this. As a side note, I tweeted some pictures of the Pokeballs to Junichi Masuda on a lark (since he retweets a lot of fanart,) and… Yeah, this is the definition of ‘Senpai Noticed Me’, isn’t it. I am still pleasantly baffled, since I had realized after making the tweet that he was probably asleep for the night and didn’t expect him to see it waking up. (Gotta imagine there’s quite a few notifications on that account.) So, that’s 2019 around here! While some good stuff definitely happened, I will nonetheless be glad to see the end of it.

Smithsonian Buddy

I’ve lived in the DC-Baltimore Metropolitan area my whole life. This means I first went to the Natural History Museum when I was, like, four. And they had a mosasaurus. They also had a little claymation video next to the mosasaurus speculating on their extinction due to falling sea temperatures killing the ammonites they liked to eat. (I suspect this is no longer the prevailing theory, but this was like, 1996.) I loved this exhibit, and have been IMMENSELY saddened I can’t find it recorded anywhere. Point being: MOSASAUR. When I saw the Dinosaur Amigurumi book had a pattern for one, it was only a matter of time until I made it. And then it was only a matter of time until I finished it after leaving the poor thing flipperless for months. I love it. I’m also much happier with my flipper sewing than I usually am. Marking where you want stitches to go, apparently it works. Who knew? Happy 2020, in case I don’t post anything before that, Hanukkah sameach, merry Christmas, and may the light return soon!

We All Live In A Pokemon World

I have not had NEARLY the time to make Pokemon as I’d like. Here’s hoping next year and moving to commissions and patterns will open that time up some more. But my cousins love Pokemon and we needed some Christmas presents, which provides a nice opportunity to work on these. Obviously, they’re a pretty easy pattern – one big circle (the Ideal Sphere pattern is once again helpful!) with basic color changes, and the button. I’m pretty proud of the button itself – a white circle attached with crochet on in black, put over the color change points. Works well! I’m hoping to finish a couple more things before the year is out.

Sleeping In The Night

Yeah, it’s been a year. It’s been a WEEKEND. And so I’ve been stress-crocheting for the last couple days and, given this was already a quick project, we have a new Christmas ornament. Pattern is PhilaeArts’ The Child Keychain, also available on Ravelry.

It’s cute. Not much to say. There will probably be a couple more posts like this because: stress crochet. GOD do I need stress crochet.

Finishing up my commissions for the year is this turtle for some friends! Isn’t it cute? Worked up fast once I got my brain in gear, especially since it’s pretty simple shapes. I like the rim – it’s really simple (crocheting the bottom of the shell to the top and then doing a round in front loops only,) but has a neat effect! Still need to work on that limb placement, though. After this… Well, I just got a couple patterns for a certain sci fi sensation, let’s just say that.

Husky, Husky, Whoo-woo-woo!

My mom’s a Bloomsburg alum, I regret nothing.

This one took a WHILE. Back in September, my aunt asked me if I’d do a commission for her, since her sister-in-law had a baby. Sure, said I, and she suggested, and bought for me, this Husky pattern by AuroraGurumi. Which is adorable!Thing I did not check beforehand: Size. Thing I did not fully conceptualize before making the head: Just how BIG a twelve-inch plush toy is. With her permission, I shelved the project in the lead up to the craft shows (back in mid-October,) and started work on it again after them and a last-minute further commission. Still, it is done, and it is CUTE!The nose embroidery comes courtesy, once again, of my mother, since I typically struggle with adjacent stitches like that so she filled in after my original, less-neat attempt. Thank you once again, because it is adorable!

I did the pattern mostly as written, with two exceptions: First, the body parts as written are attached during crocheting the main body in a way I couldn’t quite parse, so I just sewed them on. Second, the arms as written are almost ten rounds longer – and end up much longer than the legs. Since this was intended as a cuddle buddy and less of a hanger-on of things, I decided it would probably be best to shorten them. While I don’t think I’ll be doing any patterns quite this large again anytime soon, it is super-cute and I’m glad how it turned out! (One more outstanding commission for the year and then I’m going to make a couple completely self-indulgent things for a bit. I learned this craft so I would buy fewer toys because I could make them myself, and if I don’t get the chance to I start eyeing the Kingdom Hearts Funko Pops.)
